Living in el Putxet, Barcelona

On the upper northern hill, between Sant Gervasi and Vallcarca. Quiet bourgeois residential bairro, modernista buildings and villas, orderly neighborhood life. Panoramic views over the city.

El Putxet i el Farró is one of the bairros of the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district, on the upper hill of the northern part. Historically residential for the late 19th-early 20th century Catalan bourgeoisie, it preserves today the feel of a well-off, orderly neighborhood, with modernista buildings, period villas and modern blocks. The Parc del Turó del Putxet offers one of the most beautiful and least-known views of the city.

Who lives here

Traditional bourgeois Catalan families, high-level professionals, a growing share of expats on mid-to-high salaries. Families with kids are common. Few tourists.

What it's like during the day

Orderly, quiet life. Tree-lined streets, beautiful buildings, a few neighborhood cafés and bistros. The Parc del Putxet is the green lung — small but with viewpoints over the city. Close to Sant Gervasi-Galvany and the private schools.

What it's like in the evening

Very quiet evenings. Few venues, a few good restaurants. To go out you head down to Sant Gervasi-Galvany or Gràcia.

Getting around

FGC El Putxet, Pàdua. Metro L7 and L3 at the edges. Capillary buses.

When NOT to pick it

If you want intense nightlife. If you have a low budget (prices are mid-to-high). If you're looking for strong historic neighborhood character.

El Putxet is the right pick for those seeking a quiet upper-bourgeois neighborhood, panoramic views, close to schools and clinics, with good connection to downtown via FGC.
