Living in la Salut, Barcelona

On the upper part of Gràcia, next to Park Güell. Quiet residential bairro, panoramic views, close to the Collserola greenery. Authentic Catalan neighborhood atmosphere.

La Salut is one of the bairros of the Gràcia district, on the upper part of the hill. It borders Gaudí's Park Güell (one of the entrances is here) and El Carmel. Historically working-class but in a panoramic position, today it's a quiet residential area, outside the mass tourism of Gràcia.

Who lives here

Historical Catalan families, a growing share of expats on mid-range budgets, a few creative professionals. Few tourists — Park Güell draws crowds during the day, but in the evening the area empties out.

What it's like during the day

Neighborhood life. Carrer de l'Escorial and Travessera de Dalt are the main streets. Small neighborhood markets, bakeries. Park Güell is your next-door neighbor, with its viewpoints and incredible vistas over the city. Significant gradient.

What it's like in the evening

Quiet. Neighborhood bars, a few family-run restaurants. To go out you head down to Gràcia (10 minutes on foot).

Getting around

Metro Vallcarca (L3), Lesseps (L3), Joanic (L4). Bus 24 climbs up to Park Güell. The gradient makes cycling hard.

When NOT to pick it

If you want to walk to the Gòtic (you're 20 min away). If the gradient is hard on you.

La Salut is the right pick for those seeking a quiet alternative to Gràcia, close to Park Güell, with somewhat more contained prices.
