Living in Los Remedios, Sevilla
Alquiler de habitación en piso compartido Living in Los Remedios, Sevilla - sin agencia - Seville
Sevilla's bourgeois riverside extension across the Guadalquivir, south of Triana. Grid streets, mid-rise residential blocks, the Real de la Feria fairgrounds at the western edge, and an elegant family-friendly character.
Los Remedios is a barrio on the west bank of the Guadalquivir, immediately south of Triana, organised on a planned 1950s-1960s grid of wide streets and mid-rise residential blocks. The barrio takes its name from the Convento de los Remedios (now demolished) that once stood near the riverside. Los Remedios is best known as the home of the Real de la Feria - the fairground at its western edge where the Feria de Abril takes place each year. Outside fair week, the barrio is one of the most elegant and conventionally upper-middle-class residential districts in Sevilla - wide tree-lined avenues, family apartments, good schools, and notably better access to parking and modern amenities than the medieval centre.
Who lives here
A predominantly bourgeois and middle-class population. Established Sevillano families in the 1960s and 1970s apartment buildings, often in multi-generational ownership. Young professionals working in the central offices, the Andalusian regional administration, or the corporate offices in Nervión. A substantial diplomatic and consular community. Some international residents - expats, remote workers - drawn by the family character. Few low-income residents - prices are notably higher than in the working-class barrios. Some students, fewer than in the barrios near the university campuses.
What it's like during the day
Active residential and family life. The grid of streets - Avenida de la República Argentina, Avenida de Asunción, Calle Niño Ricardo, Calle Asunción - is wide, tree-lined, with traffic flowing along the avenues and quieter cross-streets. The Plaza de Cuba (at the Metro and at the foot of the Puente de San Telmo) is a major civic hub. Shopping is concentrated on Calle Asunción - Sevilla's main upscale shopping street outside the centre, with brand boutiques, cafés, farmacias and several centros comerciales. The Parque de los Príncipes at the western edge provides green space. Schools and family parks are well-distributed.
What it's like in the evening
Calm and elegant. Cafés and restaurants along Calle Asunción and Avenida de la República Argentina stay open until 11 PM or midnight. The atmosphere is more upscale than Triana to the north - slightly older crowd, more refined bars and cervecerías, high-end restaurants. The bar scene is concentrated along Asunción and runs until 1 or 2 AM. For dense nightlife residents walk five to ten minutes north into Triana or take a short bus to the Casco Antiguo.
Getting around
MetroSevilla L1 stops at Plaza de Cuba at the northern edge of Los Remedios - direct connection to Puerta de Jerez (Casco Antiguo) and to Nervión in five to ten minutes. TUSSAM buses are dense, with frequent connections to the centre, Nervión and the southern distritos. Walking across the Puente de San Telmo to the Plaza de la Constitución takes seven minutes. Cycling is excellent - flat streets, dedicated bike lanes, dense Sevici stations.
Eating and shopping
Upscale family-oriented retail. Brand boutiques, designer fashion and high-end cosmética along Calle Asunción. Restaurants range from traditional Andalusian to modern Spanish and international, with several high-end addresses. The Mercado de Triana is five minutes' walk north. Several large supermarkets (Mercadona, Carrefour, Hipercor in nearby Plaza de Armas) cover comprehensive shopping. Specialty shops for designer fashion, jewellery, libros, charcuterías and carnicerías of high quality are reliable.
When NOT to pick it
If you want a barrio with strong historic or medieval character - Los Remedios is mid-twentieth-century planned grid, elegant but architecturally consistent rather than distinguished. If you want bohemian or alternative barrio feel - Los Remedios is conventionally bourgeois. If you want immediate central walkability to the cathedral - Los Remedios is across the river, with a seven-minute walk over the Puente de San Telmo. Feria de Abril week: living in Los Remedios during Feria (April-May, exact dates vary) means living through one of the largest urban festivals in Europe, with constant casetas, music, trajes de flamenca, traffic restrictions, and a complete transformation of daily life - which some residents value enormously and others find overwhelming. Los Remedios is at its best for families and professionals who want elegant mid-rise apartments, family schools and parks, modern amenities, easy Metro and bike access to the centre, and the trade-off of being five minutes from Triana and seven from the cathedral.
