Colocation Living in Neudorf, Strasbourg - chambre à louer entre particuliers, sans agence - Strasbourg

A small residential pocket wedged between Neudorf, the Polygone and the railway. Modest streets, mid-century apartment blocks, and easy tram access to the centre.

Musau is one of the smaller and less-known quartiers of Strasbourg, sitting between Neudorf to the west, the Polygone (a former military training ground now home to large commercial and conference facilities) to the south, and the railway to the east. The name comes from an old Alsatian designation for the marshy fields that once filled the area. Today the quartier is a quiet residential pocket of modest mid-century apartment blocks, a few inter-war villas on its northern edge, and small commerce strung along the Rue de la Musau and the Avenue du Polygone. There is no major civic landmark - Musau is residential in the strictest sense.

Who lives here

A mix of older long-time residents, working families, a steady arrival of young couples priced out of more central quartiers, and a small but growing layer of EU staff and academics commuting to Wacken or the Esplanade. The social mix is closer to working-class Neudorf than to bourgeois XV. Few tourists, very few short-term rentals.

What it's like during the day

Genuinely quiet. The Rue de la Musau and the Avenue du Polygone carry the main car traffic; side streets are residential and slow. Schools and the small Place de Haguenau draw the morning rush. The Parc du Heyritz on the western edge (shared with Neudorf) is the nearest green space; on the eastern edge, the open ground around the Centre de Conférences du Polygone and the Wacken expo halls (south of the area) provides walking space.

What it's like in the evening

Quiet to silent. A handful of restaurants and bars along the Rue de la Musau - a couple of pizzerias, a Vietnamese place, an Alsatian winstub - handle the evening trade. By 10 PM the streets are residential dark. Nightlife happens in Neudorf or further into the centre.

Getting around

Tram A and D stop at Étoile-Polygone on the western edge of the quartier, connecting in about 7 minutes to Homme de Fer. Local buses serve the surrounding streets. Walking to central Neudorf is 5-10 minutes; to the Grande Île via the Pont d'Anvers, about 20 minutes. The cycle network is dense and the quartier is flat.

Eating and shopping

Limited but functional. A few small grocers and boulangeries serve the daily basics; for full supermarket runs, residents head to Auchan at the Étoile-Polygone or to the Carrefour Market in Neudorf. Restaurants are neighbourhood-scale - pizzerias, kebab houses, a couple of winstubs - with no destination dining. The Saturday market on Place du Marché de Neudorf is a short walk away and is the practical fresh-produce stop.

When NOT to pick it

If you want a quartier with its own identity, café scene or destination shopping, Musau will feel anonymous - it is functionally a residential annex of Neudorf and the Polygone. There is no historic core, no village square, no defining landmark. Apartments are mostly post-war blocks with modest insulation; the eastern edge is close to the railway and to industrial parcels. If you need walking distance to the cathedral, the EU institutions or a lively bar scene, Musau is too quiet and too far. The quartier is at its best for people who want cheap-to-mid rent, easy tram access, and a calm residential base - and who are happy to walk five minutes into Neudorf for actual neighbourhood life.
