Navas is a residential, quiet neighborhood in the Sant Andreu district, in the northeast of Barcelona, crossed by the large Avinguda Meridiana. It's a locals' area, hardly touristy and very handy: close to Camp de l'Arpa and La Sagrera, and not far from the Sagrada Família. A curiosity: it's the only neighborhood in Barcelona to have taken its name from its own metro station. You live an authentic neighborhood life, with good connections and more affordable prices than the central areas.
Who lives here
Long-term Barcelona families, workers, long-standing older residents, and more and more young people and couples looking for a handy neighborhood cheaper than the center. It's a place lived in by its residents, not a tourist destination.
What it's like during the day
Quiet and orderly. Residential streets, local shops, little squares and neighborhood markets. The large Meridiana, partly transformed into a greener, more pedestrian avenue, cuts through the area. You're still a few minutes from livelier hubs like Camp de l'Arpa, El Clot and La Sagrera.
What it's like in the evening
Quiet and domestic. Neighborhood bars, family restaurants, little noise. It's not a nightlife area: for a night out you move toward the center or toward Gràcia, handy by metro.
Getting around
Excellent position on the L1 metro, with the Navas station under the Avinguda Meridiana, between Clot and La Sagrera. From here you reach the center in a few minutes and easily switch to the other lines at Clot and La Sagrera. Several bus lines complete the connections, and the whole area is in strong development as a transport hub.
Eating and shopping
Convenient, affordable shopping: a neighborhood market, supermarkets, shops. For eating, bars, Spanish home cooking and international tables brought by the area's communities. You eat well while spending little.
When NOT to pick it
If you want a central, touristy neighborhood full of nightlife: Navas is residential and quiet. If you're after postcard architectural beauty: here it's everyday Barcelona that dominates. If the Avinguda Meridiana, wide and busy, bothers you.
