Living in Aviației, Bucharest

Aviației is a district in the north of Bucharest, along the axis that climbs towards Pipera. It is a mixed area, where residential buildings from the 1960s and 1970s live alongside more recent office blocks. It sits a short distance from the Herăstrău park and from the corridor of business hubs, and it is served by the metro.

Who lives here

Young professionals working in the offices of the north, long-standing families in the smaller buildings, foreigners moved here for work. It is an upper-middle area, with steady demand for rooms precisely because of the closeness to work.

What it is like by day

By day the district follows the rhythm of the offices: a flow in the morning, a crowded lunch break, an outflow in the evening. The inner residential streets stay quiet. The greenery of Herăstrău is a short distance away and is the release valve of the area.

What it is like in the evening

The evening is calmer than the daytime traffic suggests: the offices empty and the residential district remains. There are restaurants and cafés, with a decent and growing offer. To really go out you go down towards Floreasca or towards the centre.

Getting around

The metro serves the area with Aurel Vlaicu station on the M2, which reaches the centre in a straight line. Buses and trolleybuses run along the main axis. It is one of the best connected areas of the north without a car, which is not a given around here.

Eating and shopping

Chain supermarkets, shops, and a restaurant offer calibrated for the offices, so good at lunchtime and more limited in the evening. The shopping centres of the north are a few minutes away.

When NOT to choose it

Traffic on the northern axis is heavy at peak times and the district has no strong identity: it is an area of passage and of work more than of life. Prices are above the city average. It is the right choice for anyone working in the north who wants to avoid the car; the wrong one for anyone looking for character and neighbourhood life.
