The great eastern district: one of the loveliest parks in the city, the metro and moderate rents.
Titan is one of the great residential districts of eastern Bucharest, built mostly in the 1960s and 1970s. Its distinctive feature is the Alexandru Ioan Cuza park, known to everyone as the IOR park, one of the largest in the city, with its lake and its avenues. It is a dense district but with a great deal of greenery, and that makes it one of the most liveable areas among those with moderate prices.
Who lives here
Long-standing families, many with several generations in the same district, young couples, workers looking for a compromise between price and quality of life. It is a working-class, quiet district with a strong sense of belonging.
What it is like by day
By day the park is the centre of everything: people walking, running, taking children out, fishing on the lake. Around it, the district has the ordinary life of the great residential areas: shops on the ground floors, small markets, schools. The main roads are busy, the interior is quiet.
What it is like in the evening
The evening is calm and family-oriented. Local bars, a few terraces in summer, the park busy until late when the weather is warm. For nightlife you go into the centre, about twenty minutes away on the metro.
Getting around
Titan is well served by the metro, with stations on the M1 and the M3 in the area and immediately around it, among them the Titan stop. Surface lines are numerous. It is one of the best connected outer districts in the city.
Eating and shopping
Supermarkets, discount stores, local markets and shopping centres cover everything without needing to move. The restaurant offer is local and affordable, with a few better addresses around the park.
When NOT to choose it
It is far from the centre and made of blocks: anyone looking for historic atmosphere or nightlife downstairs will not find it. Some parts of the park and of the buildings need maintenance. It is the right choice for anyone who wants greenery and space while paying little; the wrong one for anyone who wants the centre on foot.
