The residential area in eastern Milan of Linate airport and the large Parco Forlanini. A former outlying area transformed by the M4 blue line, which reaches the centre in a handful of minutes.
Forlanini is a residential area in eastern Milan defined by two great landmarks: Linate airport ("Enrico Forlanini") and the large Parco Forlanini. Linate is Milan's city airport, a few kilometres from the centre, dedicated to domestic flights and short-haul European routes (while long-haul and low-cost flights depart from Malpensa and Bergamo). The Parco Forlanini, inaugurated in 1970 and crossed by the river Lambro, is one of the largest in the city: it takes its name - like the airport and the avenue - from Enrico Forlanini, a Milanese pioneer of aeronautics. A little further on is the Idroscalo, the artificial lake nicknamed "the sea of the Milanese", which is however located in the municipalities of Segrate and Peschiera Borromeo, just outside Milan. Long peripheral, the area was transformed by the arrival of the M4 blue line.

By day
Residential and green: the Parco Forlanini for running, cycling and being outdoors, and the edge of the airport. A quiet atmosphere, on the edge of the city.

Quiet and residential. The evening life of the centre is in any case a few minutes away by metro.
Getting around
The strong point is the M4 blue line. The Stazione Forlanini stop is in interchange with the Milano Forlanini railway station, served by the suburban lines S5, S6 and S9. Linate airport is the eastern terminus of the M4, and from there the centre (San Babila) is reached in about 12 minutes. In practice, the airport and the city centre are both a handful of minutes away.

A residential- and service-area offering, with local shops for everyday shopping and businesses tied to the airport and park area.
When NOT to choose it
The flip side of the airport is aircraft noise, a real and documented consideration in the areas under Linate's flight paths (monitored by the regional environmental agency). It is also a peripheral eastern area, close to the infrastructure of the airport and the ring road, far from the charm and life of a central district.
Forlanini works for frequent flyers, for those who work at Linate or nearby, and for those looking for a green residential area excellently connected to the centre by the M4, accepting the proximity to the airport. Those who are sensitive to aircraft noise or want the life of a central district should look elsewhere - to the east, Città Studi and Lambrate offer more neighbourhood life.
