The heart of Toulouse's aerospace world: work close at hand, a direct tram to the centre and a lively, green town.

If you work in aerospace, Blagnac is probably the most convenient address in the Toulouse metropolitan area. This town to the northwest is home to Toulouse-Blagnac airport, much of the Airbus plants and offices, and the Aeroscopia museum. It is a real town, with its own centre, its markets and plenty of greenery, not just an industrial dormitory: for engineers, technicians and interns in the sector it's an ideal base.

Who lives here

A very international population, shaped by aviation: Airbus and supply-chain engineers, airport staff, researchers, plus families and long-standing retirees. Many arrive from outside France for a contract or an internship, so finding flatmates who speak English and are living the same adventure is easy. The atmosphere is quiet and residential.

What it's like during the day

By day Blagnac revolves around work and amenities. The old town has pedestrian streets, cafés and a market; not far away is the large Blagnac shopping centre, with over 130 shops, restaurants and a multiplex. There are parks and the banks of the Garonne for walking or running. Don't miss Aeroscopia, where you can admire a Concorde, an A380, the Super Guppy and the famous Beluga up close.

What it's like in the evening

Evenings are quiet: Blagnac is not a nightlife area. You'll find restaurants, a few bars and the shopping-centre cinema, but anyone seeking venues and concerts takes the tram and in half an hour is in central Toulouse, around Place du Capitole. For many workers in the sector it's the right balance: restful evenings near home, nightlife reachable when needed.

Getting around

Tram T1 crosses Blagnac and links the town to central Toulouse via Arènes, where you change for metro A, as far as the Palais-de-Justice terminus (interchange with metro B): from central Blagnac to Palais-de-Justice takes about half an hour. The Beauzelle-Aéroscopia stop serves the museum and the Aéroconstellation area of the Airbus plants (about 10 minutes' walk). The airport is linked to central Toulouse by Tisséo public transport.

Eating and shopping

Shopping is very convenient: supermarkets, hypermarkets and the shopping centre cover every need. In the centre you'll find bakeries, weekly markets and restaurants reflecting the international population, from French cuisine to that of half the world. It's an area where shopping on foot or by tram is easy, without necessarily needing a car.

When NOT to pick it

If you're after historic, lively, after-dark Toulouse, Blagnac will feel tight: it's residential and on the outskirts, with little nightlife of its own. The areas closest to the airport are affected by aircraft noise, so weigh up the exact location of the room carefully. And if you don't work on the west side, the daily commute to the other side of the city can become long.

Blagnac is the natural choice for those who live by aerospace: very close to work, well connected to the centre by tram and fully equipped with amenities. A practical, peaceful base, with central Toulouse always within reach.
