East of the city, around the metro A stops Roseraie and Argoulets: low houses, lots of greenery and a quiet atmosphere three stops from the Capitole.

East of central Toulouse, Soupetard and La Roseraie form a quiet residential area full of greenery, built mainly with the typical low maisons toulousaines and small buildings. It's an area liked by families, students and young workers: there's an almost orderly-suburban feel to it, but with the centre a metro ride away. Those seeking calm and a quiet oasis well connected to the centre often look right here.

Who lives here

A balanced mix of rooted families, couples and a good share of students and young professionals. The average age is higher than in purely student neighborhoods, but demand for rooms stays strong precisely because the metro takes you to the centre in a few minutes. It's an area of neighborhood life, where people greet one another and the pace is relaxed.

What it's like during the day

By day calm dominates. The large green zone of the Argoulets, with its sports facilities, is the neighborhood's lung: spaces for running, walking and outdoor activity. Right next to it is the Alex-Jany sports complex, with a swimming pool and an ice rink. For shopping and errands, beyond the neighborhood shops, the fixed appointment is the market on Place Béteille, on Saturday mornings.

What it's like in the evening

In the evening La Roseraie is quiet: it's a neighborhood made for resting. You'll find a few bars and restaurants for a quiet dinner, but for venues, concerts and nightlife the centre remains the reference, very easy to reach by metro. It's the choice of those who, when the day is done, prefer the quiet of home.

Getting around

The neighborhood is served by metro line A with two stops: Roseraie and Argoulets (towards the Balma-Gramont terminus). From Roseraie the centre is really close: Jean Jaurès is 2 stops away and Capitole 3, just a few minutes. The same line A runs the other way to Basso Cambo, and at Jean Jaurès you change for line B. Numerous bus lines serve the area, and there's no shortage of VélôToulouse docks for cycling. At Argoulets there's also a large park-and-ride, handy for those arriving from outside by car.

Eating and shopping

For the everyday the neighborhood is well stocked: supermarkets, bakers, grocery shops and plenty of shops scattered around the area. The Saturday market on Place Béteille is the highlight, with lots of fresh produce. For restaurants and international cuisine of every kind, though, the centre is a few metro stops away.

When NOT to pick it

If you're after a lively neighborhood, with venues and nightlife on your doorstep, you won't find it here: the soul is residential and the evening very quiet. It's also a little more out of the way from the heart of Toulouse, so you'll depend on the metro or bus for almost anything "central". And if you love dense, lively neighborhoods, the quiet pavillonnaire atmosphere might feel too much like a dormitory to you.

If your priority is greenery, sport and a bit of peace, with the centre still three metro stops away, La Roseraie is one of the most liveable and relaxed areas in eastern Toulouse.
